Oliver Reed
Gladiator’s Maltese shoot gained worldwide media attention for a sad reason in May 1999 when Oliver Reed, who was playing the gladiators’ trainer, Proximo, died while enjoying a drink at The Pub in Valletta. The bar, which is in Archbishop’s Street, tucked away behind the President’s Palace, was later renamed Ollie’s Pub in Reed’s honour.
