White Squall
White Squall
(1996) Director: Ridley Scott. Cast: Jeff Bridges, Caroline Goodall, Jeremy
Sisto, Ryan Philippe.
This powerful, fact-based drama
about the young men on board The Albatross, a school ship that cruises the
Caribbean under a stern skipper (Jeff Bridges) circa 1960, features a
frighteningly realistic storm scene that was created using the wind, wave and
rain machines at Mediterranean Film Studios (MFS).
Malta Movie Trivia: Ridley Scott was so pleased with the
facilities at MFS that he originally planned to build the Gladiator Colossuem in
the studios’ deep water tank (when it was empty!). But a scheduling clash with
U-571 obliged him to find another location – just a few hundred metres along the
coast at Fort Ricasoli.
