In August 2003, Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone was on Malta leading an eight-strong crew that shot footage of Valletta’s Grand Harbour from several vantage points, including Fort St Elmo, Upper Barrakka and Senglea Point. In the finished film, the footage will be used to double for the ancient port of Alexandria in digitally enhanced visual effects shots. The film was shooting in Morocco in September and October 2003, before moving to the UK.

Malta Movie Trivia: Oliver Stone won the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar in 1978 for Midnight Express, parts of which was filmed on Malta.
